If you're not watching !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , now just into Season Two - I don't know you. Seriously - it is Breaking Bad good, and you'll see a lot of 60s, 70s, and early 80s iron. Lots and lots of old GM. Makes me nostalgic ....

So.Freakin.Good.
The first season was great, I was also watching Homeland at the time and noticed eventually that more interesting stuff happened before the opening credits of the Americans than the course of an hour episode of Homeland. Sorry Claire Danes, Felicity owns you.

I want to watch this but my wife is not interested and my own personal free time is very limited. I will probably follow up late in a binge watching session.

I watched the first episode and didn't get hooked. Does it need some time to get into?

She should be... it's as much about the Marriage as the spying stuff. And seriously? What American woman over 25 wouldn't be interested in seeing what happened to Felicity in the 80's?

My wife hated felicity. She said she just wanted to cut all her hair off. But yeah, my wife finds espionage really boring. She could only watch 24 because she loved watching Jack Bauer yell.

Just the discs, but get them - that's how I caught up. Or maybe FX lets you stream on the website.

It's not like The Wire , which took me 3 tries (and the first season gotten through) before I embraced it. Watch the first 3 or 4 - if it doesn't grab you, leave it alone. The critics love it, and I probably have a soft spot because I grew up in the 70s/80s.

Maybe, FX is mostly American Dad, South Park and Family guy here, I'll get the discs next time I need to buy a CD.

Just order them from Netflix. And if you need to upgrade your membership, do it.

I love this show, but I have caught a couple "time travelers" in there. Particularly, I recall an episode that took place in 1981 and caught a glimpse of some mid 80's Buick Regal tail lights. You know, after they put the horizontal trim bar through the center of them.

Homeland went a bit south (SPOILER ALERT) after they killed off the redheaded Brit. It's still good, but The Americans , set during the Cold War, is better. You're right. But one good thing about Homeland ? It keeps Mandy Patinkin from singing.

Please - I see this all the time. The GF was horrified at the scene in Behind the Candelabra when Michael Douglas was getting banged from behind - I was horrified at the scene, clearly labeled 1977, where the wheels on a Merc convertible were not imported to this country until 1981 at the earliest. We should team up and sell ourselves to Hollywood as automotive continuity.

This is a seriously excellent show, but I've missed so much of the first season - that I'm afraid to watch the second season.

Yup - don't spoil it - get the 1st season however you have to (discs at Netflix is how I did it) and catch up. If you're in Manhattan anytime soon, Season 2 is on my TIVO. Must like cats and tiny Japanese women.

If you need Season 2, let me know. I will watch it again.
Funny story - the GF said she was in no way interested in a show about a high school chemistry teacher with terminal cancer who turned to cooking meth to assure that his family was provided for. So I watched it myself. I was rewatching an episode from season 3, wanted to revisit a minor character. She walks in - "what is this?" I said: "it's Breaking Bad , the show you didn't want to watch."
She said: "start from the beginning!"
I obeyed.
Same thing happened late last year with The Walking Dead . She should listen to me more ....

The only part I didn't like was the cliché portraying of their Russian KGB/secret service training. It made me instantly think of yet another "goodie vs. baddie" US series. I'll give it another go.

You're right - there was a bit of that in there. But, like Hunt for Red October , it has you rooting for the Russians eventually. And, BTW, if you haven't watched Hunt , drop what you're doing. It remains in my top 10 - sure, Connery doesn't even attempt to sound Russian, but it's a submarine chase! I just might watch it again this evening (GF is out of town).

I Started watching the Americans right when it started. I liked the first season than the second season seemed to drag on and I skipped like the last 3-4 episodes. I started watching again once the third season started back up and it doesn't seem like I missed to much by not finishing the 2nd season. Overall I think it is pretty damn good, the music, cars and the acting is all very good and believable. It also helps the Kerri Russell is fucking sexy! If you like The Americans I suggest watching Justified as well. It is also on FX and I am pretty sure they have a bunch of seasons on netflix.

I LOVE the hunt for Red October. I actually read the book before realizing there was a movie made. It's quite popular on German TV, I've seen it at least three times.
About Connery: he does a better job than most non-russian actors trying to speak Russian, but as I know Russian more or less well (can't read though) it's still kinda funny.

The GF's boss was the one who read the book and said "this fucking thing should be a movie." We all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Great show. Been trying to get the wife to watch it but she's worried about getting into it three season in and not knowing what's going on. Wish it was on Netflix so we could back-watch.

Ha ha! They'd have us shot and buried in a farm field for being too picky!
I can hear it now: "This Bondo is the wrong shade for a scene set in 1986. Everybody knows that Bondo changed to that slightly darker taupe in 1988! This movie is going to be utter shit and everyone will hate you!"
